Who We Are

The Chester Foundation is a volunteer-run organization, dedicated to educational, cultural and historic pursuits. Headquarters is the beautifully restored 1840 railroad depot in downtown Chester; it is the venue for a wide variety of community and cultural events and a top-notch museum housing artifacts concerning this, the world’s first mountain railroad.

Our goal is to preserve and celebrate the industrial and cultural heritage of Chester and surrounding towns, with the railroad as a common link. We work in media from film to paint; cyberspace to wood and steel. Research becomes restoration.

There are many factors competing for attention in today’s busy world and members are free to participate as much or as little as their time allows. Most find the camaraderie and mutual benefaction therapeutic and a reminder of simpler times, whose loss we all lament.

For concerts, dinners, hikes and camp outs, families have enjoyed working here as a unit. If you are committed to preserving the character of small town America, the CHESTER FOUNDATION is your organization. Investigate the possibilities, whether you’re a Chester citizen, or not. Members are our lifeblood; we welcome you.
